'Compass or straitjacket': my new article in Coaching at Work
My latest article to be published in Coaching at Work magazine looks at how a coaching client’s lack of clarity in the contracting process may be problematic at the beginning of a coaching programme.
Coaching clients and their sponsors can begin coaching programmes without a clear idea of what they want or even the value they want. As a result, neither coach nor coaching client knows where they’re going.
However, sometimes that very lack of definition provides the value, because the field of possibility is wide. In such cases the coaching contract, and objectives and measurables, become defined as the programme proceeds, perhaps helped along by a three-way meeting with the sponsor or line manager at the half-way point.
